Lefty is SMOOTHER. The heart of all HeadShok and Lefty designs, Cannondale’s patented 88 Needle Bearing Technology keeps the suspension rolling fluidly, regardless of load. Unlike with normal bushing forks, hard braking, impacts and steering forces have no effect on the shock’s ability to move, which allows the wheel to track the ground freely and keeps the rider in perfect control.

A frame is only as stiff as its weakest parts. On dual suspension bikes, those weakest parts are often the crucial bearings and links that join the swingarm to the front triangle. The vague, imprecise sensation felt on so many bikes is caused by the subtle movement and flex that occurs in the connecting hardware as the loads on the bike shift from side-to-side.

Zero Pivot technology does just what the name implies – it eliminates traditional bearing pivots, and replaces them with flexing carbon fiber structures, which is actually not as crazy as it sounds. Done correctly, a flexing carbon structure can be designed to last a virtually infinite number of cycles, while eliminating the weight, play and wear of bearing connections.

The resins we use are High Strength, High Impact resins similar to what is used in the construction of carbon baseball bats; light, stiff and designed to endure thousands of deformation cycles. We combine these fibers and this resin in a lay-up designed to maximize the anisotropic (direction-specific) qualities of the fibers, providing a carbon structure that is extremely light, extremely stiff and capable of absorbing tremendous impact without damage or loss of structural integrity.

The distilled result of three decades of accumulated aluminum construction experience, SmartForming techniques deliver incredibly precise wall thickness distribution and tube shapes, concentrating material exactly where needed to maximize stiffness and strength, while shaving every last extraneous gram from the structure. Internally, all butting is accomplished via smooth, tapered transitions to eliminate the abrupt changes in material thickness which cause stress-risers.

RESISTANCE IS FUTILE.In fighting the good fight, BB30 is weapon number one. Now an industry standard, BB30 had its humble beginnings right here at Cannondale and has been lauded by industry insiders. In 1993, Cannondale forever changed the bicycle industry and ride performance for the better. It was then that we changed frame standards by externalizing crankset bearings to gain a stiffer pedaling system.

Cannondale’s patented 3D forging process allows us to take structures that would ordinarily consist of multiple pieces that would be bolted, bonded, welded or otherwise joined together and turn them into single-piece forged parts. By forging the pieces from a single block of aluminum, we end up with exceptionally good grain alignment, which makes the parts stronger, and we eliminate excess, overlapping or redundant material, which makes them lighter.
